The application engineering of STATCOM usually includes: in the selection of power semiconductor devices, most of them are based on GTO and IGBT; In the main circuit, high-capacity and high-voltage STATCOM mainly adopts transformer coupling multiple technology, and dsatcom with medium and low capacity and voltage mostly adopts three-level and / or PWM converter; VSC is basically adopted; Diversification of system control objectives; Large capacity STATCOM mostly adopts water cooling mode and other characteristics.
According to incomplete statistics, since the first high-capacity STATCOM device came out, more than 20 high-capacity (10 Mvar and above) STATCOM projects have been put into operation all over the world, with a total controllable capacity of more than 3000 Mvar. Some of them are installed in the transmission network for power flow control, reactive power compensation and improving system stability, which belong to the category of facts; Some are installed in distribution and power consumption networks to improve power quality and improve power supply reliability. They belong to the category of user power, that is, D-STATCOM of user power controller. The main circuit of STATCOM has gradually developed from the initial coupling of switching devices to the series use of multiple switching devices.
