SINOPAK Air Cooled STATCOM Design Solution

Sinopak air cooled STATCOM adopts air duct reflux design, it can avoid sands, rain, condensation etc effectively.

Site Conditions

Strong sands and High humidity during raining

The dust filter can not be cleaned regularly, the dust and water will be inhaled into power modules, and then, the mud will be attached to power boards.

Air Inlet Design Solutions

Bottom Air Inlet

Cooling air will change direction after they come through basement louvre, then go up to enter the container through dust filter at the bottom of STATCOM. After heat exchange, hot air will be forced to go out from container back. The gravity of sands will sink after changing direction from basement louvre. This solution is very suitable for sands area.

Air Duct Design Solutions

Hot air reflux design optimization: 
1. The Moist air will enter power room during wet weather, cold weather, raining and snowing weather. 
2. Hot air reflux design will avoid sands going into power room, but hot air also can be exhausted to atmosphere directly during dry and hot weather.

Air Inlet Design Solutions Comparison

Traditional solution:
Side inlet Problem: Air inlet can not avoid water or sands efficiently.
 
TSVG Solution:
Bottom inlet Bottom air inlet solution and Condensation baffle can avoid water and sands very well.

Power Boards Features

Fully closed design of power unit control panel ensures operation stability in humid, windy and dusty environment, Control drive board on power unit adopts silicone material with good performance for potting. The silicone can stay resilient and stable within -55°C~+180°C, and has better thermal conductivity and insulativity, ensuring stable operation of STATCOM in salt-spray environment.

Control Cabinet Features

Fully closed design of control cabinet ensures use reliability in sand-dust or humid environment.

Fully closed design of control cabinet prevents external dust or soot from entering control cabinet. After being closed, it needs to receive heat dissipation; to ensure internal temperature within a reasonable range, upper and lower parts of control cabinet interior are respectively equipped with one fan for up-down and right-left circular flow of air in it so as to decrease the temperature.

 

Whole control system components are comprehensively screened, with low power consumption and high reliability, to improve whole system stability. Thermal simulation of FlOWTHREM software is used to control 67°C average internal temperature when external ambient temperature is 45°C so as to meet component temperature in service environment. It fundamentally solve dust prevention and pollution prevention problems.
