SINOPAK Water Cooled STATCOM Design Solution

Sinopak water cooled STATCOM adopts closed-loop water cooling system, it is no need external water supply. 

It can be used in all kinds of installation conditions.

Environmental adaptation

In Air cooled conditions, there are some shutters to meet system cooling, a large number of dust will be brought into the equipment, which affect cooling performance.

Water cooled SVG adopts high degree of protection(IP55), Power valve tower are placed in a sealed space, heat is took away through water cooling system, there is no interaction with outer environment.

Reliability

More higher reliability 

The working condition of power module in SINOPAK water cooled SVG is more better compared with air cooled SVG. 
Power module in SINOPAK water cooled SVG has good heat dissipation conditions, working shell temperature and junction temperature more lower compared with SINOPAK air cooled SVG,which increased IGBT reliability and life.

Cost

Normal Environment

Under normal circumstances, due to water-cooled SVG needs a set of water cooling system, its initial investment cost will be higher than the air-cooled SVG.
 

Badly Environment

In the harsh environment, the air-cooled SVG needs dehumidification or air-conditioning scheme to compensate for its defects, which not only increase the initial investment but also increase the area of ​​installation, and the effect is not as good as water-cooled SVG.
 

Maintenance cost

Air cooled needs regular cleaning and replacement of dust filter, its maintenance costs will be higher than the water-cooled SVG in future.

Water cooled STATCOM Features

Control cabinet: Fully sealed design, which ensure reliability under dust, salt spray etc

Control cabinet is fully sealed to avoid external dust or powder. In order to ensure reasonable inner temperature, we install fans on the top and bottom to realize internal air circulation. The whole control system components, low power consumption, high reliability. Through the thermal simulation of FlOWTHREM software, when the external environment is 45 ℃, the internal average temperature is 67 ℃, which meets the ambient temperature of components. Fundamentally solve the dust and pollution problems.

Full collection of Chain IGBT temperature

It has the functions of real time monitor, display of each IGBT temperature. IGBT temperature is most important factor for its life.

High voltage insulation advantage

Traditional:10kV heat shrinkable tube 
Problem:No consideration of control potential and electric field distribution, it shows discharge under the 35kV voltage withstand test, safety test can not pass.

TSVG Solution: Design an insulated conducting rod by tubular busbar technology, and shield bus connection part and terminals.
Advantages:
1. Power frequency voltage withstand between insulation surface and copper bar 58kV/1min, meanwhile, solve power frequency voltage withstand at high altitude. 
2、Creepage distance between insulation level surface and both terminals>300mm.

Traditional solution:Insulation material adopted glass fiber. 
Problem:Glass fiber has strong water absorption characteristics, longterm operation will result in insulation reduction, equipment discharge and board damage. Especially in Southeast Asia, more worse.

Traditional:Bus capacitor uses external solution 
Problem:
1. Parasitic inductance increase too much in structure module and power circuit, and IGBT spike voltage increase too, which badly affect reliability and life of IGBT. 2. Capacitors are placed in air duct of module heat emission from radiator, which reduce heat emission efficiency.

TSVG Solution:Bus capacitor uses built-in solution, adjacent to IGBT. 
Advantage: Small parasitic inductance in power circuit, small IGBT spike voltage, high reliability, long IGBT life.

Traditional solution:Laminated busbar adops two pieces of bare aluminum+Insulation paper. 
Problem:Insulation aging, busbar short-circuit, explosive risk.

Hydroelectric separation, high reliability

Safety&Reliability: 

Module electrical connection is separated from water connection, which avoids electrical short circuit caused by water leakage. 
 

Balance heat emission:

Water cooling pipeline adopts hierarchical symmetrical structure,and the inter-module waterway is independent of each other and the waterway is connected in parallel, which avoids the overheating problem caused by the waterway series.

Power Module Auto Bypass Function(Optional)

When fault of power module happened, the bypass switch will switch off fault power module automatically, and then ensure SVG continous operation without stop.
